Mini Series: Carrying "Big Sentiments" with "Compact Content"

Recently, the Audiovisual Arts Research Center of Communication University of China, the Online Audiovisual Arts Creation Committee of the China Television Artists Association, and the Short Video Content Working Committee of the China Television Drama Production Industry Association jointly released the Cultural Value Report of the Mini Series Industry of Public Co-creation (hereinafter referred to as the "Report").

The Report reveals that currently, China's online audiovisual user base exceeds 1.1 billion, with short video users surpassing 1.038 billion and mini series users exceeding 626 million. Nearly 100,000 mini series companies nationwide have directly employed over 200,000 people. The consumer base for mini series spans different age groups: users aged 18–30 make up 42.5%, forming the dominant consumer force; users aged 40–59 account for 36.7%, while the silver-haired group over 60 years old comprises 15.8%, with steady growth contributing to the rise of the "Silver-Haired Theater."

The Report points out that under policy guidance, the "Mini Series +" model has deeply integrated into fields such as cultural tourism and legal education. It has evolved from a mere content product into a digital link and industry catalyst that connects various sectors. For example, under the "Travel with Mini Series" project initiated by the National Radio and Television Administration, 335 cultural tourism mini series were recommended, while 209 urban-themed works sparked social discussions, generating a "one series boosts one scenic spot" effect.

Jetsen Accelerates Mini Series Global Expansion, Planning Annual Output Capacity of 1,000 Titles in Changzhou

Recently, at the Changzhou Digital Culture Industry Ecosystem Partner Conference, Ma Lin, Board Secretary and Deputy General Manager of Jetsen (300182.SZ), revealed that over the next five years the company will work with Changzhou to build scalable production capacity of more than 1,000 mini series annually. Leveraging its global distribution network, Jetsen will launch a "Mini Series Global Distribution Initiative," marking a major step in expanding its presence in the mini series sector and seizing the emerging opportunity of exporting mini series overseas.

According to Ma Lin, on the content production side, Jetsen plans to establish annual cooperation with leading domestic IP platforms. Based on the Jetsen West Taihu Lake Film & Television Industrial Base, the company will jointly develop 500 mini series and dynamic animation works, building an integrated virtual–real filming ecosystem in West Taihu Lake.

On the technology end, Jetsen's self-developed Lingxi AI Visual Content Intelligence Platform has officially gone online, enabling a tenfold increase in animation production efficiency while lowering the artist threshold by 60%, providing core support for large-scale content creation. Over the next five years, Jetsen aims to develop a complete industry chain covering creation, shooting, production, distribution, and monetization. Overseas deployment is expected to become another key highlight of Jetsen's mini series business. Leveraging Huashi TV's distribution network, which spans more than 200 countries and regions and reaches over 60 million subscribers worldwide, Jetsen aims to build a "Mini Series +" integrated platform, creating a commercial ecosystem that turns audience traffic into sales.

Mini Series Tai Yuan Zhi Yue (Appointment in Taiyuan) Begins Filming, Echoing the "Travel with Mini Series" Initiative

The mini series Tai Yuan Zhi Yue (Appointment in Taiyuan) officially commenced filming on December 6. In response to the National Radio and Television Administration's creative initiative "Travel with Mini Series," the production takes Taiyuan's cultural tourism IP as its backdrop, exploring a new integrated development model of "culture & tourism + mini series." Consisting of 30 episodes, each running 2–4 minutes, the series is jointly produced by Shanxi Film Group and Beijing Forbidden City Film Co., Ltd.

Centered on the theme "one concert connects a city through encounters and passion," the story follows two young people with contrasting personalities and life experiences. Lin Xiaoma, a photography-loving girl eager for professional recognition and determined to capture the charm of concerts through her lens, unexpectedly crosses paths in Taiyuan with Chen Yan, a digital cultural relics restorer who, due to hearing impairment, avoids the concert scene despite being deeply engaged in heritage conservation work. Their serendipitous encounter at a concert draws them closer, allowing them to step into each other's inner worlds while deepening their understanding of Shanxi culture.

Mini Series: Sustained Success Starts with Tax Compliance

Recently, 22 leading organizations in the mini series industry, including iQIYI, Kuaishou, and Douyin Group, signed the "Mini Series Industry Tax Compliance Initiative" in Beijing. A representative from the Mini Series Working Committee of the China Netcasting Services Association stated that this is the first initiative signed by influential broadcasters, production companies, and other industry professionals in the mini series sector. The initiative aligns with the characteristics of the mini series industry and the requirements of tax and financial regulations, clarifying the direction for compliance.

The initiative emphasizes the need to clearly define the tax responsibilities of industry professionals, strictly prohibiting individuals from indirectly shifting tax obligations through terms such as "after-tax remuneration" or "after-tax profit sharing." It also requires companies to fulfill their statutory duty of withholding and paying taxes, strengthen management of invoices and financial resources, ensure the authenticity of business activities, and oppose practices like "yin-yang contracts" (the practice of creating two separate contracts for the same transaction in order to evade taxes) or receiving payments into private accounts to conceal income. The initiative further calls for the establishment of tax compliance systems within companies, encourages the creation of internal tax audit mechanisms, and stresses that tax compliance must be a prerequisite for cooperation. It opposes malicious competition through illegal practices such as tax evasion.

War-themed Mini Series Gain Momentum as the Vertical-Screen Spy Mini Series An Chao Yong Dong (Hidden Tides) Becomes a Hit

Recently, a number of war-themed mini series, including Bei Jia Hua Yuan De Mi Mi (Bussiere Garden) and Shan He Hui Xiang (Echoes of the Mountains and Rivers), have been released. The vertical-screen spy mini series An Chao Yong Dong (Hidden Tides) has achieved impressive results: since its launch, the series has surpassed 70 million in popularity index on the Hongguo platform, received over 2.22 million likes, and gained more than 4,700 comments, quickly rising to the top of the trending mini series charts. The enthusiastic market reception shows the strong potential of war themes in the mini series field, and also reflects that vertical-screen mini series are breaking traditional limits of genre and style, moving toward more detailed and diverse storytelling.

This 60-episode Republican-era spy mini series, starring Liu Xiaoxu and Wang Xiaoyi, is set in Fengtian City in 1940 under Japanese occupation. It tells the story of Tong Xue, a top Communist sniper, and Shen Shaochen, a highly skilled undercover agent, who pose as a couple to infiltrate the enemy intelligence agency to carry out secret missions. Compared with traditional long-form dramas, An Chao Yong Dong makes full use of the strengths of the mini series format. Within its tight main plot, the show naturally blends elements of mystery, romance, and revenge, giving it a fast pace and frequent emotional peaks. Amid its tense spy-war atmosphere, the series focuses on the revolutionary faith, perseverance, and sacrifice, and builds the core relationship of  "two top-tier agents" and the "contract couple" to strengthen both the dramatic tension and emotional depth.
