Tencent Video All Star Night 2025 Set Up Special Awards for Short Drama Actors for the First Time

The Tencent Video All Star Night 2025 concluded on December 21 in Haikou. At this year's event, the Tencent Video set up a dedicated red carpet session and exclusive awards for short drama actors for the first time, marking the official inclusion of short dramas into China's mainstream film and television awards system.

In the inaugural "Annual Short Drama Star" category, Chen Tianxiang, He Jianqi, Wang Kaimu, Shen Haonan, Zhao Xixi, Wang Gege, Deng Xiaoci, and Lin Zehui emerged as winners. Among them, He Jianqi stood out for his leading role in Zhui Xu Long Wang (The Dragon King Son-in-Law). The series not only achieved over 50 billion total views, but has also successfully distributed to the South Korean market, underscoring the strong commercial potential of short dramas.

In 2025, China's mini series and short drama market exceeded 30 billion yuan in value. Short drama actors are experiencing an accelerated rise from relative obscurity to top-tier popularity. He Jianqi completed his transition from a high-speed rail ticket clerk to a top star in only 18 months, while Wang Kaimu leveraged his Hong Kong–style "big boss" persona to expand into modeling and producing. It has become an industry consensus that actors in short drama achieve widespread recognition significantly faster than long-form drama actors.

Hunan Provincial Radio and Television Bureau Donates Mini Series Geng Ya Zi to Lei Feng Memorial Hall and Lei Feng School in Fushun, Liaoning Province

Recently, the Hunan Provincial Radio and Television Bureau, in collaboration with Hunan Broadcasting System's Xiaoxiang Film Channel, donated the digital master version of the mini series Geng Ya Zi, which tells the story of the young Lei Feng, to the Lei Feng Memorial Hall and Lei Feng School in Fushun, Liaoning Province. The 24-episode mini series Geng Ya Zi is adapted from the novel Ying Xiong Qv (Hero's Song) by Xie Di'an, a childhood friend of Lei Feng. With each episode lasting five minutes, it authentically recreates the growth journey of young Lei Feng (born Lei Zhengxing, with the childhood name Geng Yazi) in Wangcheng County (now Wangcheng District, Changsha City), Hunan Province.

The production team cast a current student from the Lei Feng Primary School in Wangcheng District to play the role of the childhood Lei Feng, filmed on location in Tuanshanhu Village, Wangcheng District, and developed a red cultural tourism route. The series has been selected for the fifth batch of recommended titles in the 2024 National Radio and Television Administration's "Travel with Mini Series" initiative. The Lei Feng Memorial Hall in Fushun, as a key national patriotic education base, has long been dedicated to promoting and educating about the Lei Feng spirit. Meanwhile, the memorial hall prepared the large-scale cultural documentary Hun He Liang An (On Both Banks of the Hun River) as a gift.

Chibi-Themed Mini Series Hong Se Jin Zi Shan (Red Jinzi Mountain) Wins Provincial Award

Recently, at the Second "Hubei Good Stories" Themed Creation and Presentation Event and the "Yaozhihe Cup" New Story Creation Competition, the scenario-based mini series Hong Se Jin Zi Shan (Red Jinzi Mountain), submitted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Chibi Municipal Committee, stood out and won the title of "Top Ten Works" in the mini series category of "Hubei Good Stories."

The "Hubei Good Stories" initiative aims to uncover and tell moving stories from the Jingchu region, showcasing the image of Hubei in the new era, and foster a shared spirit of progress. The award received by Hong Se Jin Zi Shan not only highlights Chibi City's deep cultivation of local cultural resources and its efforts to create high-quality works, but also provides a lively "Chibi example" for telling grassroots stories in Hubei. In recent years, Chibi City has taken the "Tangqianyan" public lecture brand as its core focus, deeply promoting the spread of "Chibi stories", by transforming theoretical content into vivid, relatable narratives. Through diversified online and offline outreach activities, these initiatives have reached an audience of over 5 million people. Works developed around stories of typical figures, including Huo Zhe De Lie Shi (The Living "Martyr") and Hong Se Jin Zi Shan, won first and second prizes at the Eighth "Xianning Stories" Competition, demonstrating the city's strong creative capacity in local storytelling.

Looking ahead, Chibi City will continue to explore its rich local cultural resources and launch more high-quality works that combine ideological depth, artistic value, and audience appeal. By further strengthening the "Tangqianyan" brand and leveraging diverse media platforms, the city aims to tell Chibi stories and amplify its voice, and contribute to Hubei's broader goal of building itself into a culturally strong province.

Anhui's Cultural "New Trio" Industry Hub Gains Momentum

"A martial arts mini series that wove the breathtaking scenery of Huangshan Mountain into its story. After it was released, the search index for Huangshan tourism-related keywords increased by 461.21% year on year." This was revealed at a recent Anhui Cultural "New Trio" Industry Exchange and Cooperation Event, where an official from the Anhui Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism shared insights with leaders from more than 20 cultural and technology companies across China. Anhui has a deep foundation for developing its cultural "new trio"—online literature, online games, and mini series.  Huizhou culture, Yangtze River culture, Huai River culture, Grand Canal culture, and Huangmei Opera culture together form a rich scene storage for content creation. Mountain landscapes such as Huangshan Mountain, Jiuhuashan Mountain, and the Dabie Mountains, as well as water scenes like Chaohu Lake and the Xin'an River, provide an abundant repository of visual and narrative settings for digital storytelling.

Robust policy support has energized market players. The leading platform China Literature LTD., has set up a branch in Huangshan, attracting tens of thousands of writers to focus on Anhui-themed content. Market vitality has also been demonstrated through concrete projects. The mini series Tie Quan Wu Di Yang Qian Qian (Iron Fist Invincible Yang Qianqian) integrated Huizhou cultural elements, significantly boosting online searches related to Huangshan tourism after its release.

The confidence in enterprise investment has translated into tangible financial commitments. Beijing Yingxing Tianxia Film and Television Media Technology Co., Ltd. has decided to invest in Anhui. According to its general manager, Han Zhen, the company plans to tailor numerous scripts that combine local culture each year and produce multiple mini series in the province. Industrial upgrading is closely tied to technological innovation. Anhui's strengths in science and technological innovation have further empowered the cultural "new trio". Mei Tao, founder and CEO of HiDream.ai Co., Ltd., said that the "Quantum Lake Legend" project, developed in cooperation with local media organizations, is a successful example of integrating culture with cutting-edge technology. In terms of financial support, Anhui Province has built a three-level cultural and tourism industry investment fund system at the provincial, municipal, and county levels, with a total scale of over 200 billion yuan, alongside customized credit products designed to ease financing pressures on asset-light cultural enterprises.

These initiatives have delivered tangible results. According to statistics, Anhui currently is home to about 2,600 cultural "new trio" enterprises. In 2024, large-scale cultural "new trio" enterprises in the province achieved operating revenue of 132.1 billion yuan and total profits of 20.2 billion yuan. The industry showcases a clear trend toward geographic clustering, with Hefei and Wuhu accounting for nearly 90% of total revenue among large-scale enterprises in the province, while online gaming companies stand out for their strong profitability.
