Annual Report on Cultural Tourism Short Drama Vitality City Index (2025) Released: Quanzhou Named a Model City for Best Practices
Recently, Quanzhou City received two major recognitions in the Annual Report on Cultural Tourism Short Drama Vitality City Index (2025), unveiled at the 2025 Inaugural Cultural Tourism Short Drama Summit. The city was selected as a Model City for Best Practices under the index, while the Quanzhou Baiqi Cross-Strait Film and Television Industrial Park was named an "Annual Creative Demonstration Base." This dual recognition places Quanzhou among a small number of regions nationwide to receive honors at both the city and industrial park levels, highlighting the robust momentum and well-developed ecosystem of its integrated "cultural tourism and mini series" model.
The recognition is rooted in Quanzhou's substantial achievements in cultural tourism short drama creation and effective industrial conversion. In 2025, seven works from Quanzhou, including Ren Jian Ban Shi Chu (The Mortal Affairs Bureau) and Yi Wan Quan Zhou Zhi Jiang Mu Ya (A Bowl of Quanzhou: Ginger Duck), were included in the National Radio and Television Administration's "Travel with Mini Series" recommended list, ranking Quanzhou among the leading prefecture-level cities in China. Notably, Qi Xv Zhi Di (The Promised Land) received a nomination award at the Cross-Strait WE Short Drama Competition.
Through initiatives such as the "Travel with Mini Series" program and creative projects revitalizing intangible cultural heritage, related productions have driven tourist visits to locations such as Xunpu Village and Wulin Ancient Village to increase by more than 150 percent, achieving strong results in both cultural dissemination and economic returns. Building on this momentum, Quanzhou plans to further participate in initiatives like "Travel with Mini Series" and "Shi Quan Shi Mei (Savor Quanzhou)," integrating more elements from its World Heritage sites into short drama production to bring Quanzhou's stories to audiences across China.
Linchuan Town Explores New Cultural Path Through Children's Mini Series
On January 2, the cultural tourism-themed children's mini series project Wan "Jv" Lin Chuan (Play in Linchuan) was launched in Linchuan Town, Rui'an City, Zhejiang Province. Jointly developed by the Linchuan Town People's Government and the Rui'an Converged Media Center, the project merges local cultural tourism resources with professional children's performing arts talent, innovatively introducing a "film and television plus experiential learning" model.
Through a series of mini scripts such as Jiang Xin Xiao Chuan Ren (The Young Craft Inheritor) and Gu Dao Xiao Shi Xian (The Little Poet of the Ancient Trail), children are invited to shift from being mere passive observers of scenery to becoming active protagonists of stories. In front of the camera, they bring to life the craftsmanship of wood carving, the poetic charm of ancient trails, and the vitality of tea-covered hills, supporting Linchuan Town's ambition to build a "Fairy Tale Town and Film & TV Study Base" brand.
As an experiment in the deep integration of online mini series and local cultural tourism, Wan "Jv" Lin Chuan project reshapes its value across three dimensions. Firstly, it crafts a digital content "calling card" for Linchuan, showcasing its craft gift industry and picturesque landscape. Secondly, it fosters industrial synergy, amplifying the impact of its "National Copyright Demonstration Park" and propelling the town's transition from manufacturing towards a creativity-driven economy. Thirdly, it conveys universal emotional values through a child's perspective, offering a gentle yet compelling narrative voice for "Rui'an Stories" that aligns with the global trend of value-based cultural exchange.
High-Quality Costume Mini Series Xi Jing Fu Fu Sha Si Fang (The Performative Couple Takes on All Challenges) Begins Filming
Recently, the high-quality costume mini series Xi Jing Fu Fu Sha Si Fang (The performative Couple Takes on All Challenges) officially began filming in Hengdian. The series is produced by Zhou Yancheng as chief producer and is adapted from the popular Tomato Novel Bo Fu Mou Cai You Hai Ming, Bi Xia Cheng Yao Sha Si Fang (Scheming for Wealth and Lives in the Bo's House, with the Emperor's Support to Defeat All Enemies). This project marks Zhou Yancheng's first entry into the short drama sector, underscoring his team's long-term strategic vision amid the explosive growth of the short-form drama market.
As a veteran producer who has previously led long-form dramas such as Jie Mei Xiong Di (Two Families) and Shan Hai Jing Zhi Chi Ying Chuan Shuo (The Classic of Mountains and Seas: The Red Shadow Legend), Zhou Yancheng brings years of industry experience and a keen grasp of market trends. This time, he chose a costume drama theme for two main reasons. On the one hand, costume dramas are well suited to expressing the unique texture and poetic sensibility of Eastern aesthetics. On the other hand, the story uses a fantastical soul-exchange premise, creating strong contrasts to deliver both emotional gratification and a sweet romantic tone, thereby greatly enhancing dramatic tension. Xi Jing Fu Fu Sha Si Fang adheres to a "quality-first" creative goal, with a strong focus on vertical-screen visual aesthetics, deeper narrative development, and careful content refinement. It avoids excessive commercial compromise and stays true to the creators' original artistic vision. Amid the industry-wide push toward higher-quality short dramas, this work is expected to break through formulaic limitations with high-quality content and inject fresh vitality into the costume short drama arena.
"Cool China" Wins Global Fans as Chinese Mini Series Go Global
In 2025, when talking about China's overseas appeal and favorability, "Cool China" became a frequently used phrase in international media reports. Throughout the year, China's cultural creativity, technological innovation, and open, dynamic development all sparked widespread discussion around the world. In 2025, Chinese mini series rose rapidly on the global stage, with content now reaching more than 200 countries and regions worldwide. With their fast-paced storytelling and strong plotlines, mini series align closely with global internet users' demand for fragmented entertainment. Southeast Asia, where cultural affinities are relatively strong, has become a core fan region for Chinese mini series. Mini series have become a natural vehicle for sharing Chinese culture internationally. When asked, "What kind of China do you see through mini series?", an Indonesian fan said honestly that watching these shows sparked their interest in the Tang Dynasty, adding that "the ancient costumes in the dramas look very beautiful." An article titled How China Became Cool published by The Economist noted that China's soft power is increasingly attracting the attention of young people around the world. Through a sustained push of public policies spanning culture, education, and diplomacy, China has fostered a more open and inclusive national image.
When Mini Series Meet Intangible Cultural Heritage and Food: Quanzhou Baystage Cross-Strait Mini Series Industrial Park Invites Visitors to Celebrate the New Year's Eve
On December 31, the Quanzhou Baystage Cross-Strait Mini Series Industrial Park celebrated its first New Year's Eve since opening. An immersive New Year's event themed "Life Is Like a Drama, My 2026 Is About to Start Filming" was held at the park. The event combined mini series experiences, intangible cultural heritage performances, live music shows, and cultural creative interactions, attracting numerous local residents and tourists to welcome the New Year amid dazzling lights and visuals. The event highlighted a "cinematic" experience, allowing visitors to engage with the real process of film production. Participants took on the role of "invited extras", walked the red carpet, signed their names on a backdrop featuring a giant film clapperboard, and jointly activated the "2026 ACTION" clapper device, symbolizing the opening scene of the New Year. Guests from food variety shows were also invited to create a film-themed culinary interaction area, achieving a creative combination of film and cuisine.
At the same time, parts of the on-site shooting studios were opened to the public, allowing visitors to closely explore authentic filming environments. Immersive NPC interactive games were also set up. By completing story-driven tasks, visitors could earn special tokens and exchange them for limited-edition cultural creative gifts, experiencing the fun narrative both on and off the film set while touring the park. As a key cultural industry project in Fujian Province and a core platform of the Cross-Strait Film and Television Cultural Cooperation Pilot Zone, the Quanzhou Baystage Cross-Strait Mini Series Industrial Park continues to promote the integrated development of film and cultural tourism. This New Year's event was not only a festive celebration, but also an important practice in building an ecological loop of "production—experience—consumption—interaction." In the future, the park will further deepen content innovation and industrial integration, helping Quanzhou become a nationally influential mini series production base and a prominent platform for cross-strait cultural exchange.
